Stanislavsky, the first director of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, commented, “It hides in all of its flowering whiteness the great poetry of the dying life of aristocracy.” Playwright Kate Moira Ryan extends this metaphor; her new work concerns four daughters of Russia’s last czar rehearsing Chekhov’s play in the days before their execution. Ryan’s talent for creating poignant, multilayered roles for women will doubtless bear fruit. (Soloski)  Village Voice
